About Central Hunter Sports Medicine

CHSM is an independently operated medical and sports injury management business specialising in Orthopaedics and the management of acute sporting injuries.

Our director Mick Sager is a Nurse Practitioner, assisting patients of all ages with their healthcare needs.

In the sporting arena, we offer comprehensive musculoskeletal and sports injury assessment, management and referral for orthopaedic specialist reviews, and physiotherapy rehabilitation.

Operating for nearly twenty years, CHSM has a close network of medical and allied health professionals to refer clients to including orthopaedic surgeons, physiotherapists, massage therapists and personal trainers.

Based in The Hunter Valley NSW, Mick treats clients from the The Orthopaedic Clinic, The Junction or his own clinic in Gillieston Heights.

Meet Mick Sager, Owner

Mick is an Emergency Nurse Practitioner who has accumulated over 20 years experience in trauma and emergency nursing and musculoskeletal sports injuries.

His qualifications include Master’s of Nurse Practitioner, Bachelor of Nursing, Grad Cert in Advanced Practice (Emergency), double Grad Dip in Health and Project Management, Major Incident Medical Management and Support (MIMMS) Advanced Commander, level 1 Sports Trainer, NeckSafe and HeadSafe, and Level 1 Strength and Conditioning Coach.

Mick has become a trusted and well-known professional within the Hunter Region, and the wider community providing sports trainer and medical management for many sporting events since 2016.

Over the past 17 years Mick has worked with many sporting organisations at both club and elite level. Organisations such as The Waratahs Rugby Club, Southern Beaches Rugby Club, Maitland Rugby Club, Newcastle Hunter Rugby Union, The Newcastle Knights, NSW Country Rugby Union, Maitland Saints AFC, Kurri Kurri, Cessnock and Maitland Netball Associations, Cardiff Junior Australian Football Club, NSW Rugby Union, University of New England Women’s Rugby 7s program, Maitland Touch Football Association, H Events, the Western Force Rugby Union University of Newcastle women’s rugby 7s program for the AON University 7s series and the Hunter Wildfires
